On stage, in a drama with a medieval setting, two figures face each other in a trial by combat, watched by a figure on a throne. Soldiers hold heraldic banners. The scene is watched by an audience in the pit and the boxes. A drummer is seated in the box lower right. Annotated on the mount.

Marks and inscriptions
  • 'Orig, Sketch of the Coburg Th. Robert Blemine Schnebbelie Monday 25th May 1818' (Lower left and lower right)
  • 'Royal Coburg Theatre. The scence is Trial by Battle. Alderman Goodbehere in the stage box as proxy on the night of the opening. The female with the little bonnet is supposed to be reading the motto on the Coburg arms in the panel of the centre dress box. Original drawing 25 May 1818.' (On sheet below image)
