  • Ward-Jackson, Peter, Italian Drawings Volume I. 14th-16th century, London: Her Majesty's Stationary Office, 1979, p. 210. The text is as follows: FLORENCE: late 16th century 456 Back view of a female torso; after a broken antique marble Inscribed in an old hand on the mount ‘Andrea del Sarto Doppo l’antico’; on the back in J. Richardson’s hand ‘D.67. ZI. 64. E.47. O’ Black chalk 9 ¾ x 4 ½ (248 x 114) Dyce 154 PROVENANCE J. RIcharson, Sr (Lugt 2183); Sir J. Reynolds (Lugt 2364); Dyce Bequest 1869 LITERATURE Dyce Catalogue no. 154 (as by Andrea sel Sarto) The old attribution to del Sarto has been maintained until lately in the Department, but the drawing is clearly later in date, possibly by some such artistic descendant of del Sarto’s as Alessandro Allori. Its damaged condition makes it difficult to judge.
