Place of origin |
Ink pots such as this were often attached to a pencase forming a set. Used in the Kathmandu Valley of Nepal they reflect the religion and mythology of the culture that gave rise to them. The form of the ink pot itself is almost identical to the purna kalasha or vase used to contain sacred water while vegetation and crocodile like makara or mythological monsters refer to the life giving powers of water.
