DOMENICHINO Domenico Zampieri (1581-1641) 687 A man's head in a cartouche Inscribed 'm.120' as in Lugt 2981, and again on the mount in an 18th century hand 'Domenichino' Pen and ink 4 1/2 x 3 1/4 (114 x 83) Dyce 328 PROVENANCE Padre Resta; Lord Somers (the inscription refers to a MS in the British Museum, which is a transcript of Resta's notes on the drawings first in his and then in Somers's collection; see Popham, Resta; also Lugt 2981 and Lugt, Supplement, p. 419); Dyce Bequest 1869 LITERATURE Dyce Catalogue no. 328 (ascribed to Domenichino) Resta's comment on the drawings numbered m.1I9 to m.128 in the MS in the British Museum reads 'sono tutte del Dominichino'. In the case of no. 687 the attribution is uncertain, but not to be excluded.
