The following is the full text of the entry: GUERCINO Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (1591-1666) 718 An allegory: a young woman seated upon a throne among the clouds, reading a book; below her a crouching figure of Time; above her a flying putto Inscribed in ink in an old hand 'Guerchin da Cento' Pasted on the back of the mount an extract from a printed catalogue in French describing the drawing and stating that it had been in the Zoomer collection Pen and ink and wash 9 3/4 x 11 1/8 (248 x 283) Dyce 306 PROVENANCE. J. P. Zoomer (?) (in the right hand bottom corner a collector's mark appears to have been cut away, but the upper part of a cartouche which remains is like that in Zoomer's mark, Lugt 1511); Dyce Bequest 1869 LITERATURE Dyce Catalogue no. 306 (as by Guercino) The sheet has been cut irregularly at the top and laid down on another piece of paper. The hour-glass which the putto holds was inserted at a later date on the new sheet.
