This set of engagement tablets was a present from the French royal family to Hélène, Duchess of Orleans, after the death of her husband, the Duke of Orleans, who was killed in 1842. He was the oldest of the five sons of Louis Philippe, King of the French and Queen Marie-Amélie. Their portraits are on the covers. On the inside of the covers are portraits of their four younger sons, together with the wife of one of the sons.
