The painting depicts members of the Korean People's Army, dressed in uniform and wearing winter hats, as they gather to read a newspaper mounted on an outdoor panel. Falling snow can be seen on their faces and hats. In the foreground and at top right are snow covered branches. All 16 figures in the composition have expressions of excitement and celebration. The painting suggests eagerness to view the newspaper, as soldiers crowd together, surging towards the foreground.
