All the musicians in this print are shown playing various versions of Pandean, or Pan Pipes, as well as other percussion instruments. This troupe, united as a band by their hats sporting Prince of Wales' feathers, was depicted playing at Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. Strolling groups such as this - also known as Savoyards - were performing in the Gardens by 1781, and continued to appear into the 1820s.

All the musicians are playing the Pan Pipes while also playing other instruments including the cymbals, a triangle, a ndrum, a percussive instument with bells, and a tambourine.
