Place of origin |
Simple glazed ceramics with refined shapes were popular in Korea during the Choson period (1392-1910). Underglaze iron-brown was used to decorate ceramics throughout the Choson period, but was especially popular between 1600 and 1700 when cobalt blue (another popular pigment) became difficult to obtain. Iron oxide was painted onto the body of the vessel before it was glazed. After firing, the iron oxide developed a deep brown colour.
