This object was acquired in 2007, donated to the Museum from the BBC, who made a programme on Barbie for their Money Week special. This type of Barbie is from the Barbie Fairytopia line, which features an assortment of fairy themed dolls and playsets. It was later made into a film in 2005.

Barbie is a best-selling fashion doll launched in 1959. The doll is produced by Mattel, Inc and invented by Ruth Handler, whose own daughter was called Barbara. In recent years, however, Barbie has faced increasing competition from the Bratz range of dolls. This doll was produced in 2003 in China.

Boxed Fairytopia Barbie made in China by Mattel in 2003.
Physical description
Boxed standard Barbie doll. The doll is a fairy made of pink plastic and with pink glittery hair tied up in a ponytail. She is also wearing a skirt, ballet shoes and wings, her top is painted on with pink glitter. The box is acrylic with printed card at the top and bottom. This is green with pink flowers, and contains the words, Barbie and Fairytopia along the top and on the middle. The doll comes with a small booklet which is also pink.
