Teddy bear, seated, with forearms raised. It is made from pink nylon plush, the head, limbs and body are of an all-in-one construction. The head has a slightly pointed muzzle with the nose and mouth embroidered with black thread. The eyes are of blue and black plastic and are locked into the face. The bear has three 'claws' embroidered onto each forearm. It is soft-stuffed with a plastic foam filling. There is a pale blue nylon ribbon tied around its neck.
With the bear is a printed card advertisement with 'Wendy Boston Playsafe Toys Ltd' printed in yellow and black, with an illustration above showing a woman putting a teddy bear through a mangle. The caption reads: 'A careful mother washing her baby's Teddy Bear. Wendy Boston were the first firm in the world to manufacture a complete range of washable soft toys'

Object history | Given to the Museum in 1988 by Mrs M. Wrist, the self-titled 'Teddy Lady of Kingston' [87/1567]. Mrs Wrist had a collection of around seventy teddy bears. She presented the Museum with four bears from her collection which she felt were missing from ours (MISC.123 to 126-1988). |
