Place of origin |
Wooden two-storey shop with balcony, on a base.
Exterior: base is painted and marked to represent pavement with kerb stones. Ground floor front has two large perspex windows with central door. Proper right side has one large perspex window with blue painted rod divider. Back has a paned perspex window and a hinged door. Front section is hinged at bottom and opens forward; it is held open by a short length of string and fastened closed by a metal cabin hook closure. Woodwork on front and proper right is painted white and blue, with red and black painted signs 'BYBUY'S' above the windows. The second storey is painted to represent red brick and has one paned perspex window at the front, one on the proper right side and two on the back. There is a narrow balcony with green painted balustrade. The roof is carved and painted red to represent tiles; there is a chimney with three chimney pots on the proper left side of the roof. All the paned windows have green painted wood dividers and yellow painted lintels and sills. Proper right and back wall are covered with sawdust to represent pebble dash.
Interior: Sawdust floor with staircase leading from centre of floor to upper storey. Blue and white painted 'tiles' run along lower part of back and proper right walls; framed mirror on proper right wall. A metal rod runs from left to right, close to the ceiling and towards the front of the shop interior; two shorter metal rods run perpendicular to this from which hangs the 'meat'. There are nine pieces of painted wooden 'meat' with small metal hooks inserted and four pieces of meat without hooks which are displayed on two white-topped counters, one L-shaped and one rectangular; these are freestanding but may have originally been glued to the floor. There is a wooden cash register, barrow, three-legged chopping table with meat cleaver and rectangular white painted table. Upstairs has two small rooms accessible via a hinged sloping roof. A hinged door connects these two rooms and another hinged door leads from the smaller of the two rooms to the balcony.
