Historical context
Froebel's Kindergarten gifts are based on a series of apparatus designed by Friedrich Froebel (1782-1852). Called 'Gifts' they were designed to teach the child about unity and symmetry in nature, whilst helping them to develop manual dexterity. There are seven 'gifts' in all, the first six consisting of solid shapes, whilst the seventh is comprised of flat geometric shapes known as 'tablets.'
