Pelike or red earthenware, on one side a bridal scene representing two lovers on a couch and with an attendant. There is a maid on each side of them and Eros flying above. On the other side is a toilet scene with a lady seated on a stool looking into a mirror with two attendants. One a man holding a wreath above her head the other a dancing maid. Below the handles are palmette motives and also around the neck, below there is a border of meander.

Object history | Made in Apulia, a part of Southern Italy under Greek influence, about 100 years after the invention of acanthus ornament. (1992) Examined by D.M. Bailey who attributed it to Apulia, c. 370-360 B.C. Originally thought to have been made in Campania in the 4th century B.B. |
