Object history
The strip below the figures is the simplest kind of Greek Key - it can turn into a complicated interlace pattern. On the neck of the vase is an early type of lotus and palmette pattern (case 19), the origin of egg and dart. The Greek key is also known as fret, and meander. The scene shows Athena between Herakles (Hercules) and Iolaos.
