This is a plaster cast of Roman Doric capitals and entablature, one of four plaster casts made by the British Museum casting department using ex-V&A moulds dating from the early 1900s in the Doric, Ionic, Corinthian and Composite style. They were made in 1991 for display in the Ornament Gallery of the Museum.
This version of Roman Doric is similar to that published by Vignola in 1562. The abacus and echinus of the capital are decorated and an astragal has been introduced below. The mutule is undecorated.
