This woodengraving for the Dalziel Bible Gallery of 1881 was made from a drawing by Edward John Poytner D.322-1893. The use of photography to transfer drawings to the blocks had a number of advantages for the artist. He could work on paper and make the drawing the same way round as it was to be printed, leaving the camera to reverse it during the transfer process. The camera could also reduce or enlarge the drawing to the size of the block.
