Physical description | Costume design 15 by Nicholas Roerich for one of seven Maidens in scene 1 in Nijinsky's ballet Le Sacre du printemps created for Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes 1913. Long robe of off white wool coloured bright scarlet with 'underskirt' (deteriorated) and orange underarm gusset, with elaborate multicoloured patterns around the neck, shoulders and cuffs. On the chest are five noduled circles with a pomme cross in pale yellow on a brown red ground. Around the hem is an elaborate multicoloured patterned band with a simple pattern of lines and spots on the 'underskirt'. Made by Caffi, Sy Petersburg. |
