Label for the display Enthoven Unboxed: 100 Years of Collecting Performance (the belt S.681A-1980 was displayed with costume S.681-1980):
Writer and critic Jacques Rivière described Le Sacre du printemps (The Rite of Spring) as 'Spring seen from inside with all its violence, its spasms and its frissons'. Parisian audiences were shocked by Igor Stravinsky's dissonant score and Vaslav Nijinsky's angular choreography. In Scene 1 the women wore fine wool costumes, like this one, which gave weight to their movement.
