Costume for an Ancestor in scene 2 of the Ballets Russes production of Le Sacre du Printemps 1913.
The costume consisted of a full length robe of off white flannelette, painted at neck, elbow, wrist and hem with geometric shapes in yellow, reddish orange, highlighted with magenta. This was worn with a leather belt and white linen boots under cross strapped leather sandals/boots.
Le Sacre du printemps was first performed by the Ballets Russes on 29 May 1913 at the Théâtre du Champs-Elysées, Paris and first performed by the Ballets Russes in London on 11 July 1913 at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
The scenery and costumes were designed by painter, philosopher and archaeologist Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947).

Missing the metal discs at front neck. Narrow leather belt with hanging silver painted wooden 'dagger' in a 'sheath' and socks of coarse off white linen. |
