Costume for an Elder in Nijinsky's ballet Le Sacre du printemps designed by Nicholas Roerich, Diaghilev Ballet 1913. Full length robe with shawl collar of off white flannelette with hip insert, ochre underarm gusset and scarlet-painted neck infill. The sleeves and wrists are painted with wavy lines and zig-zags and the hem with lines, ovals, square and a row of upstanding 'leaf' motifs with trefoil top.
