Costume for a Mourner in Massine's ballet Le Chant du rossignol designed by Henri Matisse, Diaghilev Ballet, 1920. Long, hooded Chinese robe in off white felted fabric, appliqued with midnight blue velvet triangles. Down the back, from the hood, falls a floor-length panel appliqued with bold chevrons in midnight blue velvet; from the front of the hood rise 'horns' and ear flaps.
