Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Bonnie Cashin was a mid-twentieth century American sportswear designer. This coat is an example of Cashin's adaptations of popular coat styles of the time for what were increasingly known as 'suburban coats' in the 1950s and 1960s. This name referred to their shortened length, which allowed for greater ease and motion for women getting in and out of cars.

Cashin often combined leather and wool in the same garment. This coat is a typical example: made of colourful wool tweed, lined with wool jersey and trimmed with leather piping.
