The design features a variety of plants with white, red and yellow flowers, on a pale ground with green flecks suggestive of grass. The flat simple frontal motif was adapted from a tapestry shown in an illuminated manuscript at the British Museum. This was the second paper William Morris designed, but the first to be issued, in 1864.
