Bibliographic reference
Kara Mustafa was appointed Grand Vizier by Sultan Mehmet IV, his father in law. In 1683, his army suffered a great defeat when he attempted to take Vienna. With the addition of a beard, and a change in lettering, this plate was transformed into the portrait of Mehemet Effendi, Turkish Ambassador (who was in Paris in 1721), and the print sold by another publisher in Paris. This indicates that the stock of the Pomme d'Or was dispersed. See BN Fonds, pp.436 and 501.
