Bibliographic reference | Muhammad Ali Pasha (1769 1849) was Viceroy of Egypt. During his powerful rule, Mamluk power was crushed, a hereditary pashalik of Egypt created, social, economic and military reforms made, and
Egypt's international status greatly increased. Colonel O. J. A. Sève (1787 1860?), later called Sulayman Pasha, was a French officer employed by Muhammad Ali Pasha to drill his new army along European lines. He became a Muslim, was promoted to Major General, assisted Ibrahim Pasha in his campaign in the Morea, and contributed to Egypt's military victories.
The dating of this print is based on the entry in BN Fonds p.223, under Louis Dupré. |
