Bruno Caruso (1927-2018) was a Sicilian artist who began painting at a young age, making copies of Renaissance masters. His first collection of drawings, 'A Study Of Disaster', was created in response to the horrors of the Second World War which ended when the artist was just 18 years old. Travelling around France, Austria and Germany in the immediate postwar period, he was inspired greatly by George Grosz, creating his second collection of works entitled 'Deutschland uber alles'. A lifetime of left-wing campaigning followed, using his art as a tool to rail against political corruption and inequality. He was a vocal supporter of Communism and crossed paths with an extraordinary array of 20th century revolutionary leaders and thinkers including Malcolm X, Ho Chi Minh, and Jean-Paul Sartre.
