This figure cast by the Parisian foundry of Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810–92) is after a model by the 19thcentury sculptor Antoine- Louis Barye. Multiple editions of Barye’s works were made by the quick and cheap method of sand casting and marketed to middle-class Parisians.
