Like the French department stores and their furniture studios, Heal's exhibited modern designers in its Mansard Gallery in the 1930s. The inclusion of a 'moderne' range extended its image, which was still associated with staples of Englsih Arts and Crafts design by Heal and Gordon Russell, sturdy materials and 'honest' craftsmanship.
