This poster celebrates the Allied liberation of Paris in August 1944, and also emphasises the bond between France and America. The Statue of Liberty dominates the poster, serving as a reminder of France's famous gift to America, symbolising friendship and the common cause of liberty. The inscription 'LaFayette Nous Voilà' recalls an incident when America had joined the Allies in the First World War. The words of Captain Stanton, General Pershing's aide, were declaimed to riotous cheers as American troops gathered with French forces at General LaFayette's tomb to celebrate their arrival in France.
