‘The billboard can often be seen with its back to the railway tracks or car park, a construction site or an area of wasteland’, explains photographer Stephen Gill. ‘As well as relaying their message, billboards naturally become a curtain for whatever lies behind.’ This photograph entitled L’Oreal Paris. Because You’re Worth It, from the series ‘Billboards’, demonstrates Gill’s desire to draw attention to things that are ‘so familiar and obvious they fall below the usual threshold of people’s attention’.
