Physical description | Costume for Cupid worn by Gail Thomas. Thigh-length pink, orange, brown tunic with V-neck in synthetic fabrics. The costume has a cross body sash trimmed with gold, a double gold fring at the hem and it is decorated with plastic flowers and foliage. It fastens with hooks and eyes and zip on the left side and with hoks on the left shoulder. There are two deliberate 'cuts in the bak for wings. Inside are names and labels identifying it as being worn by Gail Thomas the name Taglioni and Royal Opera House maker's labels |

Object history | Costume for Cupid worn by Gail Thomas in Mary Skeaping's recreation of Filippo Taglioni's anacreontic ballet 'The Return of Springtime' originally performed in 1818. The music for the recreation was composed by Cesare Bossi, and the scenery & costumes were designed by David Walker. The recreation was first performed at the Abbeydore Festival, Hereford, September 10th 1965. The ballet was incorporated into the Ballet For All productions 'The Twelfth Rose' and 'Sun King, Swan Queen'. |
