The American "Chap-Book" was started in May of 1894 and was published twice a month. The periodical's content was a mixture of literary and arts coverage. The Chicago-based artist and designer William H. Bradley produced a number of their illustrations and advertising placards. The publishers commissioned posters such as this one to promote Chap-Book sales. From the outset, the public responded to the innovative advertisment designs and sought them as collectibles.
