Ebony and Silver
Mark of Christian Lencker (apprenticed 1575, master 1584, died 1613)

This portable altar was intended for private devotions, either in a bedchamber or when travelling. Lencker was one of the most prestigious Augsburg goldsmiths of his generation, working for the Hapsburg court and Wittelsbach Dukes in Bavaria. He was appointed Assay Master in 1610. He specialised in embossed and chased silver sculpture, as well as more conventional vessels.
