Sketchbook containing pencil, pen and ink, and watercolour drawings of landscapes, figures and shipping, some of which form the basis of the illustrations to 'Letters from Monaco', published as supplements to 'The Graphic' on March 24, April 14, and May 12, 1879 (vol. XV). The places mentioned by name are 'The Gates of Monaco', the 'Port de Monaco' (dated 30.12.1876), 'The Gasworks, Monaco' (dated 06.01.1877), and Monte Carlo.
Inside the front cover and on a few pages at either end are miscellaneous notes and addresses.
The volume consists of 96 pages in total. The paper is cream coloured wove paper, bound in green boards with a black cloth back. The artist's name and two addresses are inscribed in the front cover.
