This plaquette depicting Mars and Venus; the Forge of Vulcan was probably made by Jakob Cornelisz Cobaert (active 1568-1615) in Rome, in about 1590-1610. This was made after a design by Guglielmo Della Porta (active 1531-1577).

Physical description
Bronze plaquette depicting Mars and Venus. On the right under a tree hung with drapery are Mars and Venus embracing. They are already in the net which is held by Vulcan who sits in the centre. Nearby Cupid has Mars' shield. On the left three cyclopes at Vulcan's forge, in the background two women, and above, Apollo in the chariot of the sun, with other gods. The plaque is damaged on the right.
