Portrait, when a child, truend to left and looking to front; thje sitter is wearing a necklace of pearls. Features in brown and sanguine, hatched and shaded with blue-grey in long diagonal strokes, and heavily impasted, touches of gum in the right side of the head, on a pale carnation ground; hair washed and hatched in dark brown over pale brown wash with some pale gouache heightening, also over the carnation; dress in blue washes with the modelling in white; chemise and lace in white shaded with grey; pearls in very pale grey with the lights in thick white; background a pale brown wash, hatched with darker colour and with some pale gouache lights; on vellum put down on pasteboard.

Frame: A copper-gilt rim of V-section with a toothed closure strip soldered to the back; set in a rectangular black composition board; a small round brass hanger nailed to the back, with a chased brass ornament, in the form of a pearl droplet surrounded by seed pearls radiating from the suspension point, protruding over the front of the board.
