Physical description | Carved mother of pearl relief depicting St Jerome. St Jerome, naked except for a loincloth, kneels leaning forward to the left, holding up a cross in his left hand. He looks upwards over his left shoulder to where the mouth of a trumpet appears in the clouds. Before St Jerome are a book and a skull, in the foreground the lion, on the right a pilgrim's hat at the mouth of the cave. The relief is flat and much thicker at the base. |
