Object history
On the back of the frame is the following engraved inscription: 'Urith Offley/daughter and co-heiress of/ Joseph Offley of Norton Hall, Derbyshire/ married Samuel Shore/ of Meersbrook, Derbyshire./ 15 Feb.1759.' The miniature, however, clearly dates from c.1795, and as the sitter appears to be a young woman, the identification must be in some doubt.

An alternative Urith is Urith Lydia Shore from Derbyshire, part of Florence Nightingale's extended family. She wanted to have a Crimean War monument in Sheffield and wanted FN involved. FN wrote back declining- seeing herself as a distraction if involved. Erected a school at Bole Hill, for boys and girls. Her portrait was also painted by George Romney - as Lady Urith Shore -in white dress. However, as Urith Lydia was born 25 July 1800, the miniature is almost certainly not of her either.
