Object history
This watercolour was formerly in the collection of Richard S Davis, one of the ‘Monuments Men’ who worked on recovering and cataloguing looted artworks during World War II. He later worked as a curator and then director at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. An early champion of modern art, Davis encouraged patrons and the MIA to collect 20th century art and built his own substantial private collection as well.
