Frame of carved limewood, stained dark brown, the whole carved in openwork with putti among vines, roses and other flowers and foliage, on which are placed birds, lizards, snakes, butterflies and other animals. In the centre of the lower side a mask (possibly Apollo) with rays springing out behind, set in a scallop shell. In the centre of the upper side is a blank shield flanked by palm leaves, and surmounted by a marquis's coronet (with no evidence of any paint).
With a deep inner frame, over the edge of the carved frame, which sweeps backwards to the wall.
