This statuette is a reduced copy of the Venus de' Medici, a Graeco-Roman marble statue in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, known since 1584. It differs from the original in several minor points. It stands on a circular pedestal which is fitted with two simply moulded ivory rings forming a base and a cornice. The statuette is made by Jean-Pascal François Norest in Paris in 1855.
