Costume for the Glove Seller worn by Irina Baronova in Gaîté parisienne, Leonide Massine's Ballets Russes Highlights, 1945. Below the knee length dance dress of ivory taffeta. The bodice is sleeveless with a low cut curved neck to back and front. Attached to the skirt are three graduated flounces, cut on diagonal curves from left to right, the lowest falling to hem length on the right side. The dress is appliqued with diagonal stripes of pale mauve petersham ribbon; on the bodice are four diagonal stripes, one of which continues up the left shoulder strap; the right shoulder strap and side of bodice are left clear. The skirt flounces are visible lower edge of skirt are covered with similar stripes. The neck and each flounce are edged with a narrow salmon pink fine tarlatan frill and under each flounce is a loose fine tarlatan lining of the same salmon pink. Attached at waist is a white tarlatan underskirt set on the inside from low hip to hem with nine lace frills. The bodice is lined with ivory fabric and fastens at the back with hooks and eyes.
