Place of origin |
Travel by rail, air or sea has ever been a popular pursuit for the wealthy classes. From the early Twentieth century, colour lithograph posters were used to advertise luxurious and seemingly exotic destinations. With the outbreak of the two world wars, travel for pleasure was substantially curtailed. After World War II, however, there was a resurgence in tourism with the increase of intercontinental air travel. This travel poster, with its large palm tress, appeals to the viewer's sense of adventure and the lure of remote destinations.
