Children's 8mm films, produced to be shown on a variety of cine projectors, were particularly popular during the 1960s and 1970s. Televisions were becoming common in British households, and the production of programmes and films for children was on the increase. The 8mm films of the time reflected this output both in cartoon or live action form. Terrytoons was an animation studio founded by Paul Terry and sold to CBS in 1955. As well as the mischievous mouse, Little Roquefort, other characters included Mighty Mouse and Deputy Dawg.
