Barbie was launched in 1959. She was designed by Ruth Handler a co founder of Mattel inc. Ruth decided to design a teenage doll as her young daughter enjoyed playing with paper dolls. She saw the potential a doll could have if it had lots of accessories just like the paper dolls. Barbie has become a icon of the twentieth century and a top selling toy all around the world.
