Tunic

Costume for the Bluebird possibly worn by John Gilpin. Short tunic of saxe blue velvet, with full length sleeves, round slightly low neck to front and back and pointed lower front. Set onto the upper sleeves are gathered puffs of paler blue crepe, held by tufts of blue feathers, blue stones, diamante and pearls. On the chest is a design of graduated stylized 'feather' shapes, extending around the neck, of gold Russia braid, enclosing lines of diamante, blue stones, each 'feather' terminating in a large blue stone at the outer edge, flanked by diamante; at the neckline are two large blue stones, below which, either side of the front fastening, is an oval pink stone. Set within the neck is a tiny pleated organdie frill. The tunic fastens own the centre front with hooks and eyes and has been lined before making up with white cotton. The sleeve puffs and shoulders are stiffened with fake crin.
