He has a carved and painted face with a lugubrious expression, and wears a camel-coloured felt habit belted with a length of thick string to represent rope, a dark green felt cowl and felt hands. A central wooden rod for operation from below is attached to the head and there are two metal bars ending in wooden handles fixed to each wrist to control the arms
