This is a view of the Crytal Palace in Hyde Park from Prince of Wales's Gate in the Kensington Road by Charles Burton. The building was designed by Sir Joseph Paxton (1801-1865) to house the Great Exhibition of 1851 which was opened by Queen Victoria on the 1st May in that year. It was subsequently re-erected, in an enlarged form, at Sydenham in South London in 1854, where it remained until its destruction by fire on 30th November 1936.

    This is a view of the Crytal Palace in Hyde Park from Prince of Wales's Gate in the Kensington Road by Charles Burton.
