Place of origin |
Hand-knotted carpet with a woollen pile on a jute warp and woollen weft.
Warp: undyed jute; Z4S; 7 threads per inch.
Weft: brown wool; Z3S; 2 shoots after every row of knots; 4 rows of knots per inch.
Pile: wool, 6 colours: green, light blue, black, white, pink, grey. Symmetrical knot tied around two warp threads; 14 knots per sq. inch.
Side finish: 4 cords overcast with black wool.
End finish: probably a band of plain weave with black weft covered at a later date with upholstery tape.
Design: Grey ground with abstract geometric design of black lines. The overall impression is of arching lines forming a triangle in the centre. In one corner there is a small square with what might be the Omega symbol.
